The Department of Landscape, Interior and Heritage Architecture and Planning studies (DLIHAP) offers an interdisciplinary master’s program in Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture and Heritage Studies in architecture and planning, leading to award of Master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture, or Landscape Planning, Master of Interior Architecture, Master of Heritage Architecture of Planning Studies. The discipline draws upon conceptual and methodological instruction on the linkages between exterior and interior architectural design using the building envelope as the interface of the holistic design experience. Heritage architecture and planning responds to the meaning of the built form in terms of prolonging buildings and structures’ life depending on their importance and value. It also addresses monuments, landscapes or landforms that have been molded by mankind in different genres to create various uses and cultural meanings to man. Masters holders in heritage architecture or planning studies are critical for managing historical structures and sites, and in restoration of cities neighbourhoods which require redevelopment, or conservation. The programme seeks to create a professional that brings to bear acquired understanding of trends and dynamics of landscape processes and associated human-nature interactions, principles, techniques and specialized skills, methods and tools, towards articulating a targeted programme of responses.
