Bachelor of Built Environment in Urban and Regional Planning
The field of urban and regional planning gives geographical expression to the economic, social, cultural, and ecological policies of society. It is at the same time a scientific disciplinary, an administrative technique and a policy development towards an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach directed towards a balanced regional development and the physical organization of space according to an overall strategy. It focuses on the intersections between environment, landscape architecture, urban design and geography.
The four year Bachelor of Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning Course as offered by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is project based with SPATIAL PLANNING as the central discipline. To this end, the Course Structure is pivoted around the planning studio with lecture inputs in supporting subjects, aided by tutorials, seminars, field exercises and workshop instructions.

The regional planning and development
The urban planning and design
The rural planning and development
The site planning and design
The land use planning
The projects chosen and inputs given are directly related to the East African context.
Categories of Applicants
Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING (Bsc.URP) degree in the School of Architecture and Built Environment with the following qualifications:
The basic admissions requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is at least an average grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).In addition, candidates must have attained the required minimum grades of C+ at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in the cluster subjects :-

Candidates should have a minimum of two (2) principal passes in Mathematics and Physics and a subsidiary level pass in Chemistry with a credit pass in English at O-Level.
Diploma in Technology Spatial Design and Planning (Dip. Tech SDP) holders from KPTU or any other recognized and equivalent institution.
(d) ANY other EQUIVALENT Qualification subject to the acceptance by the KPTU Academic Board / Senate.
